Travel Agent
So my mom's friend is a travel agent and has some advice for us, and may even be willing to plan this. There's no addition cost, as she takes her commissions from the hotels, etc.
So far she suggests:
Best Western Albergo San Marco Go to www.bestwestern.com and check these out. Don't know what the rates are. The lesser expensive hotels are located near the railroad station in the Mestre area and it is much cheaper here but much further away from the heart of Venice.
Basically, she knows Europe well, at the least, those who want, she can help us with some advice. She also recommended Fodor's travel books...
So far she suggests:
I am a big fan of Best Western Hotels. They are really all independently owned but can be booked under the best Western booking engine. These hotles usually just require a credit card as a guarantee with a reasonable cancellation period.
These are a few :
Best Western hotels in Venice such as:
Best Western Ala
Best Western Olimpia

Italian textbook
I have an intro-level Italian textbook on my desk, where I'll be keeping it in case anyone wants to take a look.

Day 5: Geneva/Venice/Veneto
Flight from Geneva (GVE) to Venice (VCE) -
Nonstop, 8:40 am - 9:55 am
about $166/person through Flybaboo
We should book these soon, as the most inexpensive seats are already gone and they only get more expensive. We're operating in the midrange. I'm not even sure if there is room for 14 (?), considering it only allows me to search for 6 people at a time.
I'm having trouble locating this elusive old caretaker for the Brion Tomb - if anyone wants to help me scour the net for his info, it'd be appreciated. I'm also having trouble locating a charter bus company from Venice to the Veneto that isn't marketing "tours" exclusively.
I read that Villa Emo is only 6 miles away from Brion Tomb, whereas Vicenza is an hour's drive - do we want to rethink the rough itinerary for Day 5 and 6, Jessica/Emily?

when should we buy flights?
are we buying them all together? or separately?
i'm thinking of arriving in paris on saturday, march 14th. is anyone staying in rome for another day or maybe two after our closing lunch?
here are some sample fares (one ways from sfo to paris, and rome to sfo), both for about $633
